‘Clark ‘Slams’ and Pitches the Yankees to the Title’

Submitted by Kyle Volkers, Yankees manager

The Terre Haute MSBL 35+ championship game came down to the undefeated Yankees versus the White Sox. The Yankees were overcoming some key injured personnel while the White Sox were recovering from a hard fought 9-8 win over the 2017 champion Cubs played just the day prior.

The Yankees quickly took advantage of a tired White Sox pitching staff with a 5-run lead in the first inning. Pat Tingley came in for the White Sox in relief and pitched two scoreless innings. The Yankees eventually found their groove again and scored another 11 runs in the fourth inning including a grand slam by Yankees starting pitcher Jared Clark. Clark held the White Sox scoreless until the sixth inning and Kyle Volkers came in to close out the game with a final score of Yankees 17 White Sox 5.

Dale Mahurin, Andy Jackson, Brian Schulze and Clark all had multiple hits in the championship game for

the Yankees’ second undefeated season in the past three years. Jeff Hardin had two hits in the game for a White Sox team that continues to improve season after season.

Thanks to all the players, umpires and fans for another successful 35+ season full of good times and comradery. The league continues to provide elite competition for players of all ages and never ceases to fill teams that contend at the national level. Several players from the league played for the runner-up Volkers Group 70+ team and the reigning champion Volkers Group Father-Son team that competed in the MSBL World Series in Phoenix this past fall.
