2018 Sugar Kings Win 40+ Smoky Division in Puget Sound Senior Baseball League

Puget Sound Senior Baseball League, 40+ Smoky Division

Sugar Kings 6, Ravens 4

 ‘Sugar Kings Secure Ninth Title’

By Jeff Austin, Sugar Kings manager

A pitching duel was on tap for the first five innings between the Sugar Kings Jeff Cirillo and the Ravens Jess Sanders in the Championship game of the PSSBL Smoky Division (40+). Each allowed no runs while keeping base runners to a minimum.

The Sugar Kings scored the first run in the bottom of the sixth with the Ravens countering with a run of their own in the top of the seventh. Great defense by both Teams was the order of the day which kept the game tight until the bottom of the seventh when a leadoff single by John Olsen started a 4-run rally. Larry Davis contributed an RBI followed by a 2-RBI single off the bat of Mike Wood.

The Kings would add an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth off a Dan Burbank line drive. Jeff Cirillo pitched 8 1/3 innings of 5-hit ball combined with seven strikeouts against two walks. This was an exceptional Championship game! The victory marked the ninth Championship for Player/Manager Jeff Austin.
