Sea Dogs 10, Somerset Braves 3‘Sea Dogs Make it Four Straight Titles’

Submitted by Kevin Curt, Sea Dogs manager

The Rhode Island Sea Dogs capped a season that saw them win 20 games by defeating the Somerset Braves in a best of five series, three games to one. The Sea Dogs were led the entire post season by their ace, Bob Barton. Barton pitched 17 innings in the championship series, giving up three earned runs and winning two games.

The game three showdown between the teams proved to be the turning point of the series. Josh Ferreira’s nine inning, 164 pitch performance, in which he gave up only one earned run, was enough to lift the Sea Dogs into extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th, Tom Koch launched a 2-out, 2-strike pitch 350 feet for a walk off home run. Jared Tinkham pitched a flawless top of the 10th inning to keep the game tied before Koch’s blast won it in the bottom of the 10th.

Congratulations to the entire Sea Dogs team. The win marked the fourth consecutive championship by the Sea Dogs and sixth Rhode Island MSBL league championship overall.
