‘Tigers Beat ‘Cudas in Greatest League Championship Ever’

Submitted by James Halk, Tigers manager

There has never been a better Championship series in the Central Ohio MABL then the one played this past October where the Dublin Tigers won the 2018 league Championship over the Columbus Barracudas! It was a drama filled World Series that saw games two and three won in the final at-bats with both teams down to their last out of the series before coming back and winning. The Tigers would win game three 5-4 in walk-off fashion in extra innings to secure the championship.

Game three, with the series tied 1-1, saw the ‘Cudas dominate most the game. Then finally in the ninth inning, and down three runs, the Tigers woke up! With two men on, “Big Country” Trevor Foster would launch a game tying 3-run home run sending the game into extra innings. The Tigers would go on to win the decisive game three in the 11th inning thanks to an Allen Ayers walk off RBI single, securing the Tigers second World Series crown in just three seasons. Charles Cooper pitched the game of his life, tossing five innings in relief in the title game to win it for the Tigers. Charles would go onto be named the World Series MVP!

I have managed in the league since 1996. Everyone on this 2018 Tigers team cares about one other. It really is a family, man. People get more excited when someone else steps up than when they step up. It’s so rare to see that. And it just wasn’t in the playoffs, it was all season long. I am so proud of this group of guys and am so happy they finished the season on top. They earned it! Now it’s time to get ready to defend the title next year.
