2017 Pigs Heaven Roasts the Devils in the 35+ Finals at Jersey Shore MSBL

Jersey Shore Mid-Week MSBL, 35+ Division

Pigs Heaven 3, Somers Point Devils 1

‘Ortego Throw in Ninth Secures Championship’

In the Jersey Shore Mid-Week 35+ championship the final battle came down to the #1 seeded Pigs Heaven versus the #2 seed Somers Point Devil’s.

The Pigs won game one 9-3 behind the strong hitting Pigs, including a 3-run bomb by Link Rodriguez. Steve Rivera continued his pitching dominance of the league by holding down the Devil’s with 12 K’s.

In game two the Devil’s bounced back behind key pitching from crafty lefty Paul DiBlasio. The Devil’s plated nine runs to even the series, winning 9-3.

The final championship game three featured Steve Rivera dealing bullets and nasty sliders. He had a no hitter for five innings and struck out 13 overall.

In the fourth inning with two men on base the Devil’s made a pitching change with the game tied at 1-1. Veteran Pigs player Teddy Brown promptly smoked a hanging curve into the gap for a double plating two runs to make the score 3-1. In the seventh the Devil’s worked the counts and with two men on and two outs it looked like they had a chance to score runs and stay in the game with a base hit into left field. But the game ended when Ramon Ortega hosed the runner at the plate to end the game and win the series. The final score was 3-1.
