2017 Minden Redbirds Post Successful Season in Red River League in Louisiana

Submitted by Tim Morris, Redbirds Manager

I’m not gifted at writing sports stories, but I have been given a gift of the sport of baseball. This year our Louisiana Red River 35-over division had evenly matched teams, which produced a very competitive year. We had games we tied, won, and lost by one or two runs…then ran out of time due to rules. The Red Birds title comes from the Minden Redbirds, a team with a history that goes back into the 1950’s I’ve been told.

We won the semi-final games against the Eldorado Red Socks, a team with the best record for the year, and first place seed in playoffs. We defeated them 11-1 and then played the championship the following day against the second place team overall in the League, the Bossier Rats. We defeated them during the regular season, however my pitchers we’re tired having played back to back two days in a row and the Rats hit the ball very well during the game. The Rats team defeated us in a decisive fashion and became our 2017 League Champs.

I would also like to add that our League President David Pratt should be be commended for establishing a competitive year and working through a tough year logistically due to rain and the force of mother nature.
