‘Mariners Make it Four Titles in Six Years”

Submitted by Rick Park

The 50+ Everest Mariners of the Puget Sound Senior Baseball League in Seattle won their fourth Championship in six years. Their 2017 record was 19-4. The team was led by pitchers Bill Mann 11-1 and Jim DuBois 8-1. DuBois also led the division with a .593 batting average.

Catcher Jose Padilla also led the division in runners thrown out. The Mariners have three of the prime base stealing players in Bob Barker (no not that one)Jeff Wilson and Gary Van Cleave with over 121 stolen bases. A highlight was a triple play, which is a rare feat especially at the 50+ age level. Chuck Jeffers hit over .400 and got two RBIs in the Championship game versus a very talented Silver Foxes team and pitcher Bob Hope (no not that Hope). The team also features two MSBL Hall of Famers in Rick Park and Tom Krause.

The Everest division in Seattle was started six years ago and is a fast growing division as the PSSBL matures. PSSBL tryouts usually have over 100 try out players.
