‘Lake Monsters Win First Championship’

Submitted by Billy Long, Lake Monsters manager

In our fifth season of being a team, we won the 18+ metal bat championship of the DCMSBL for the first time. We finished 13-3 but that was only good enough to get us second place. We scored a league high average of 10 runs a game and only allowed four per game. Halfway through the season we lost our ace pitcher to the Minor Leagues.

The Hogan brothers, Tim and John, led the team this year in almost every offensive category including hitting .511 and .574 respectively with a combined five home runs.

The best of three Championship series games against the were thrilling. The first game of the doubleheader had pitcher Collin Holston throwing a complete game 3-hitter for the 8-2 win. The second game came down to the wire. After giving up the lead in the bottom of the sixth and having the game tied at 3-3, Colin May delivered a two run home run to left in the seventh and Josh Ruffin came in to close the game out.
