2017 Hebron Nor’Easters Outlast Newington Caps for 35+ Title in Connecticut MSBL
Connecticut MSBL, 35+ Division
Hebron Nor’Easters 5, Newington Caps 1
‘Solarz Dominance on the Bump Seals Title’
By Todd Johnson, Nor’Easters manager
The Hebron Nor’easters overcame a first game loss to the Newington Caps to wrap up their third consecutive league championship. Hebron and Newington finished the regular season with matching 17-3 records, with Hebron owning the tie break for the overall number one seed. Both teams easily advanced through the first two rounds of the playoffs, leading up to the championship games.
Newington took game one 7-3, behind strong pitching and early hitting. The bats cooled off, but it was enough to win due to solid pitching and outstanding defense.
In game two Chase Solarz went all seven innings allowing only one run in a 5-1 win. The Hebron bats woke up early and the five runs proved to be too much for the Caps to overcome, facing Solarz.
With the series tied at 1-1 the finals resumed Sunday morning. In a risky move, manager Todd Johnson went again to the team’s ace, at the bequest of Solarz. Solarz again went the full seven innings, allowing just six hits and again only one run. In back to back games Hebron posted five runs, which was enough to seal their third title.
