The 2017 Columbus Knights won their fourth league title all in the last six years this past season in the Central Ohio MABL. The Knights were led by their two aces in the starting rotation: Alio Gasbarro (8-2, 1.23 ERA, League leading 105 K’s) and Ryan Zamiskie (8-2, 1.61 ERA, league leading .73 WHIP).

They also displayed a strong offensive season from the top three in their lineup Cody Spires (.531 AVG, .595 OBP) Brendan Green (.447 AVG, .488 OBP) and Brett Griffey (.423 AVG, .538 SLUG) plus great run support from the rest of the lineup. Overall, the Knights led the league in several pitching categories and placed top five in most offensive statistical categories.

The championship series between the Knights and the Barracudas pitted two great pitching staffs against each other. Alio Gasbarro led the charge in game one of the series, throwing a complete game and giving up one run. Cody Spires, Brett Griffey and Brad Taylor sparked the offense in the later innings to give the Knights a game one win, 3-1.

In game two Ryan Zamiskie took the mound ready to close the series out. Ryan threw a gem and the entire Knights line up came alive and took home the victory 11-1. Perhaps the most outstanding part of Championship Saturday was that the Knights played two games with nine players total!
