(Photos by Jane Burkitt) The Colt 45s held off the Sacramento A’s for a 3-2 win in the Sacramento MSBL 50+ winter/spring division championship game. The Colts were new to the winter/spring division, starting the season off with a loss to the Sacramento A’s. We then regrouped found our stride and the winning streak began carrying us through the season and into the playoffs, where we would meet up with the A’s once again for the championship.

Our two main pitchers, Pat Taylor and Tim Halverson, threw the bulk of the season along with a solid defense and some timely hitting. A great bunch of guys with good chemistry and talent equals a lot of fun and a lot of wins! Pat Taylor threw a great game in our last game of the season defeating the Elk Grove Tribe ensuring our first round bye. Then it was Tim Halverson who pitched a complete gem in the championship game giving up only two runs over seven innings while striking out five, scattering seven hits and no walks.

The defense played flawlessly while first baseman Chris Kawela had a clutch single early in the game scoring two runs and giving us the lead, which we would not relinquish. A good hard fought game and great pitching duel on both sides. Looking forward to next year!
