Editor’s note: This is the first year of the 60-over division of the Austin Metro Baseball League, led by league president Mike Lucas.  Three teams were formed from a draft of the age-eligible players in the league.  The Brewers, managed by Jeff Latimer, the Colt 45’s, managed by Allan Fletcher, and the Indians, under the guidance of Herb Kneisley were born.  The Brewers took the crown with a 7-3 record.

“We agreed before the start of the season to forego playoffs,” said Colt 45’s manager Allan Fletcher.  “With only three teams and this being the first season, we voted to not have a playoff to determine a division champion. Our goal for the 2018 season is to have at least four 60+ teams with more games and playoffs at the end of the season to determine a division champion.”

The 2017 results:

Brewers (Jeff Latimer manager) 7-3 record

Colt 45s (Allan Fletcher manager) 5-5 record

Indians (Herb Kneisley manager) 3-7 record

Malcolm Latham of the Colt 45’s followed Powell with a .514 batting average. Porter Maddox added their only ‘in the park’ home run and had a .360 batting average.
