‘Braves Compile Astonishing 81 Consecutive Victories’

Submitted by Jeff Wolf, Braves manager

The Chesapeake Braves continued their unprecedented run in the Chesapeake MSBL 35+ Division with their 81ststraight win and third consecutive undefeated season. Managed by Jeff Wolf and Jeff Pate the Braves had to overcome many regular season injuries to several starters to keep the streak alive. The Braves had to rally twice in the last inning to tie games and ultimately win in extra innings. The pitching staff was once again led by Dave Greeley, Mike Bronakoski, Bob Engelmeyer, Steve Hoffmann, Danny Miller and was bolstered by the return of Pat Boucher.

Newcomers to the team, Andy Welling andMick Myers, provided stellar defense behind the plate and tremendous offense. The fourth new addition, Kirk Puepke, solidified the outfield and added a strong bat. Ian Hendricks, Todd Perry and Joel Hudson consistently set the table for Ryan Hendricks, Cleon Jones, Pat Conley, Earl Williams and Jason Tores to drive them in. Josh Molnar had a great year offensively and defensively.

In the double elimination playoff format, the Braves won Game one 9-1 versus the Mariners and then had to battle the whole game against a very good Ducks team ultimately winning game two by a score of 5-3. The championship game was a 14-3 victory over the Mariners in which every starter had a hit and scored at least one run. It was truly a season of total team effort with every player doing whatever was needed at every game to get the job done.
