‘Pitcher Burris Claims MVP Honors’

Submitted by Randy Clemo, Portland league president

This was a great pitching duel between the Bombers southpaw Scott Burris and the Brewers Dave Engle.  Batting second, Ryan Barr of the Bombers crushed a home run to center field to get the Bombers on the board. Riley Hendricks then hit a triple and scored the eventual game winning RBI on a ground out by Steve Brock. The Brewers had the bases loaded in the fourth with runners on second and third in the ninth inning but could not push across any runs.

Game MVP Burris pitched a complete game, gave up one earned run, scattered 12 hits, walked two and struck out ten, striking out the side in the third and fourth innings. Bob Donley went 2-5 with two doubles, Steve Brock was 2-3 and Beau Foster was also 2-3, helping to pace the Bombers. Jeremy Roulin was 2-4 with two doubles and Chris Griffiths a perfect 3-3 to lead the Brewers hitters. Congratulations to Manager Ty Brack on his second consecutive championship!
