‘Barons Repeat with Undefeated Playoff Run’

The Puget Sound Senior Baseball League Teton Barons (35+ Division) won their second consecutive division championship during the 2017 season. The Barons followed up their 22-win and 2-loss 2016 championship season with a fifth-place finish during the regular season, mainly due to a couple of key injuries and some season-long scheduling challenges. Everything came together during the playoffs though, as the Barons convincingly won all four of their playoff games – by a cumulative score of 47-4. Their championship run finished with back-to-back wins against the Teton Rainiers, including an 11-1 victory in the championship game.

During the playoffs, the Barons won with strong defense, dominant pitching, and timely hitting. In their four games, the Barons made a number of highlight defensive plays all over the diamond, while committing only four total errors. The Barons’ pitchers controlled every game, with Shawn Brown winning three games while giving up only one earned run in 21 innings. Kevin Steagall won the Barons’ first round game and gave up only three earned runs over 13 innings in the tournament.

Offensively, the Barons got key contributions up and down their lineup, with Joel Frauenheim batting 0.538 during the playoffs and team newcomer, Dave Rivera, batting 0.571.

The Barons are looking forward to defending their title again during the 2018 PSSBL season.
