Submitted by Tony Pacella, Chicago Woodpeckers manager

The Woodpeckers have won two MSBL championships in the Chicago area.

The first one was in the Chicago North MSBL when the Woodpeckers joined the Chicago North MSBL two years ago and defeated their arch-rival Royals for the title.

The second one was in the Chicago Central MSBL. After not playing in the Chicago Central MSBL in 2015, the Woodpeckers came back in 2016 to defend their championship from 2014.

The Woodpeckers beat the Yankees in two straight games to win the 2016 championship. Anthony DeFazio led the Woodpeckers for the season with a .607 average and an astounding .786 slugging percentage. Bob Latchford was the workhorse on the mound by going 7-0 with a 2.47 ERA in a team-leading 39 2/3 innings.

In 2016 their team batting average was a mind blowing .371.
