‘Aguilar Twirls Two Complete Games for the Sweep’

Submitted by Gary Gomez, Billy Hitchcock League President

The Upatoi Indians, managed by Robert Hillhouse, successfully defended their 2015 title by defeating the Auburn Braves (Jesse Edwards, mgr) in the League Championship Series. The series opening double header was all that was required for the Indians as they rolled over the number one seed Braves 14-0 and 9-2.

Game one was no contest as the Indians jumped to a quick lead in the first inning off a two- run home run hit by catcher Hank Towery. The Indians scored multiple runs in all but one inning in this seven inning game. In all, the Indians put up 20 hits in game one with some of the more notable production coming from Tommy Howell with a three-run bases clearing double, and Shawn Sewell who had three hits to include a two-run double. Winning pitcher Mike Aguilar threw a complete game shutout giving up six hits and two walks.

In game two the Indians picked up where they left off. Once again it was Mike Aguilar on the mound who threw another complete game, holding the Braves scoreless until the late innings. Aguilar gave up one earned run on seven hits and no walks in his winning effort. Leading the offense were Shawn Sewell who went 3 for 4 with two RBI, and Matt Moorefield who went 3 for 3 with two RBI.

This is the seventh league championship for the Indians in the 15 year history of the Billy Hitchcock MSBL. The Indians have been managed by 73 year old Hillhouse since 1975.
