‘Gary Stonebrook Leads Tribe in Spring Session’

The Tribe had a great time playing this past spring. With a mixture of existing players from other teams I was able to bring on some new and old blood into the mix. Three friends from high school joined the league and had a blast. I was also able to bring on my brother-in-law, which made things even more fun. We ended up having a great mixture of great guys, which in my book is what it’s all about.

Our season started out slow, as The Tribe kicked the ball around for a few games. About mid-season we started putting things together in route to winning some ball games. We made it to the Championship game by soundly beating the Athletics, who had had our number for pretty much the entire season.

In the title game we faced a tough Seals team. After three innings the Tribe went up 5-1. We were staked to a 1-0 lead in the first after Gary Stonebrook led off the game with a double and was knocked in by a Bobby Crump single. The Tribe scored two additional runs in the second inning, led by a Jim Tygrett single and a Josh Stonebrook rbi double. A Gary Stonebrook walk, a Ruben Labrado rbi single, and a Scott Renteria rbi double capped off the scoring in the third inning to put the Tribe up 5-1. However, the tables turned in the fourth inning with the Seals putting up a four spot to tie the game. The Seals subsequently went up in the sixth with a single run. The Tribe tied the game in the eighth with another Scott Renteria leadoff double and a Manny Perez rbi single. Going into the last frame the Tribe were down 8-6, after the Seals scored two in the top half of the ninth. The Tribe made it interesting in the last inning, however. Down 8-6, the Tribe had runners at first and second after singles by Gary Stonebrook and Bob Wooden. However, with two outs, the Seals induced an infield pop-up to end the game.

Even though we lost it was a battle up until the last out, as all Championship games should be. The Tribe pounded out 14 hits, led by Gary Stonebrook who reached base five times (3×3, 2 runs, 2 walks), Bob Wooden (3×5), and Scott Renteria (2 doubles, one rbi, one run scored).
