‘Pirates Claim First Regular Season Title’
Submitted by Chris Hall, Pirates manager
The Pirates of the Central Arkansas Men’s Baseball League were able to capture their first league championship in 2016, six years after joining the league. The key additions of Jason Houston and Calvin Drinnen contributed to an already strong core while adding depth and put the club over the top.
The Pirates finished the season 13 – 3, leading the league in runs scored (184 runs) and runs allowed (5 runs/game). Offensively the Pirates had a slash line of .379/.482/.548 for the year and had 20 home runs between eight players.
Unfortunately, the Pirates couldn’t double up and win the playoffs as well, losing in the championship game to the White Sox, 21-6. In what was a close game until the sixth inning, the Pirates pitching gave way to a strong and balanced offense that scored 15 runs over the final four innings to put the game away.
