The 2016 45+ division of the South Jersey Men’s Senior Baseball League pitted the Philadelphia Old Timers (12-7) against the Gloucester Township Mariners (13-6) in a best-of-three series. It was the second straight Championship Series for the Mariners. The higher seeded M’s scored three in the first inning of game one and continued to lead 5-4 over the Old Timers into the eighth inning. The Old Timers then scored five unanswered runs to take the lead and win game one, 9-5. J. Rosado led the Old Timers with three hits and two key doubles while P. Maldonado went eight innings for the win in relief.

Game two once again saw the Mariners score three in the first inning and once again take a 7-4 lead into the eighth. But again the resilient Old Timers continued their late inning heroics by scoring six runs in the bottom of the eighth and winning the 2016 45’s South Jersey Men’s Senior Baseball League Championship, 10-7!

Both Championship games saw the Old Timers with eighth inning comeback wins. J. Barreto homered and had four hits and four RBIs while Hector Colon chipped in three hits for Old Timers. Maldonado again picked up the win in relief. The Mariners lead both games going into the eighth but could not put the Timers away. The Mariners were led by League MVP Frank Chandler, who collected three hits, while Lou Cardona had two hits and two RBIs. Congrats to the Philly Old Timers on their 2016 Championship!
