‘MSBL World Series Team Wins Detroit 45+ Division’
Submitted by Ron Elswick, Bengals manager
We formed our 2016 Great Lakes Bengals team with the MSBL World Series in mind. It was a good season as we went 22-2 in the 45+ Hughes Division of the Detroit MSBL. Our pitching was very good with a 2.84 team era that included seven shutouts. Our team posted a .377 batting average with 204 runs scored. The Bengals posted a very solid season both on defense and offensively.
Keith Opalach led us with a .484 batting average, 27 runs and 18 RBI. Keith was our team MVP. Other leaders were Matt Enciso with 26 stolen bases and Ron Elswick with 22 RBI and 6-0 from the mound.
We played in the MSBL World Series in Arizona as the Great Lakes Tigers and lost in the semifinals to the eventual champions of the 45 Cactus division. The majority of the tournament team was from our regular season team and everyone that made the trip was from the Detroit MSBL!
