Submitted by Joe Horvath, Reds manager
The Central Ohio Reds capped 2016 by winning their sixth straight league tournament title beating the Spiders 14-6. The Reds rolled thru the playoffs going 4-0 and beating the one and two seeds in the tournament. Dan Zelinski was a workhorse on the mound throwing every inning. The Spiders battled thru the playoffs and played some tough games to make the finals match-up with the Reds.
On 9-11 the Reds and Aces took a moment before the game to remember the fallen of 9-11 and Scott Polgar of the Aces gave a speech that talked about how lucky we were to be playing and to remember those who sacrifice their lives so we can play the greatest game: Baseball!
The Reds went 14-4 in the regular season. They were led by All-Stars Joe Beyer .558 BA, Charles Washington .439 BA, Joe Horvath .409 BA and Ben Jeffers .407 BA. The team struggled mid-season losing three games in a row but rebounded and won the last nine games and the title. The Reds batted .364 as a team.
