‘Walk-off Hit in 10th Secures Back-to-Back Championships’
Submitted by Russ Ward, Metro Red Sox manager
For the second straight year, it would be the Metro Red Sox and Waltham Braves battling it out in the Masters championship finals of the Boston MSBL. And for the second straight year, the series would come down to a decisive game three. This year however, the series would be decided in extra innings in what was a fantastic pitcher’s duel between Steve Hueston and Gary Vallerand with neither pitcher allowing a run through nine innings.
However, in the bottom of the 10th with the score knotted at zero, it was the Metro Red Sox who would come out on top once again. With two outs and a runner on second, Paul Rousseau provided the clutch base hit into the gap to drive in the winning run and give the Red Sox a 1-0 walk off win and back to back championship titles.
Congratulations to the Metro Red Sox on winning the 2015 Masters Championship and to the Waltham Braves for a great season and hard fought series.
With eight championships now under their belt, the Metro Red Sox regain the lead for most championships won by a franchise in BMBL history. Red Sox team MVP went to Steve Busby and the coach of the year award went to Russ Ward. Russ is a true veteran of MSBL national tournaments, having played in over 70 tournaments since 2000, mostly for the Boston Wolfpack.
