2015 Somerville Senators Celebrate 25 Years in Boston MSBL

Boston MSBL/MABL 30+ National Division

‘Senators Complete Special 25th Year Together

Submitted by Orazio Azzarello, Senators manager

The Senators came up short in the finals of the 30-over National division of the Boston MSBL/MABL versus the Bombers, who had all three phases completed: hitting, pitching and defense. Former Atlanta Braves pitcher Kevin McGlinchy was our MVP in the playoffs pitching in six games, logging 46 innings and had an ERA of .90 with 27 K’s while giving up only two walks in the post season. Veteran Paul Rousseau led the team in hitting during the regular season batting .397 and a team leading 12 RBI’s. This year was a special year because it was our 25th year.

The Somerville Senators entered their 25th year in 2015 and the man that started the franchise in 1990 was Alex Masel. We have been playing at Trum Park in Somerville, MA ever since. Alex is still part of the team as the General Manager along with Peter Beck who helped him along the way recruiting players. There are so many players to name, but just a few we would like to recognize are Steve Donovan, Bill Smeglin, Russ Ward, Paul Rousseau, Mark Moise, Ed English, Pete (Pencil) Grassia, Bobby Iandoli, Steve Capozzi, Bob Delponte, Kelley McCormick, Steve Tocco, Chuck Sjostedt and the rest of the players that have put on a Senators uniform. You are part of a team, but also you make many friends along the years.

The team has been coached by Orazio Azzarello since 2011 and continues the tradition. The Senators have put the ’25th Anniversary’ embroidery designs on their hats and undershirts for 2015 season as a special commemoration. Congratulations to the Somerville Senators!
