‘Sharks Claim First Title in Ten Years Under Steve North’
Submitted by Steve North and Billy Kirkendale
The Loudoun Sharks of the DC MSBL/MABL ended their season the right way for the first time in ten year head coach Steve North’s tenure, winning the 18+ championship at McLean High School! The Sharks lost the first game in the best of three championship series against the Blue Jays, but won the second in walk off fashion to send the Sharks into a third and final game for all of the 2015 DC 18 and over marbles. With Joey Ingler on the mound the Sharks were able to hold the Blue Jays to one run going into the top of the eighth inning. After some hits and good base running the Sharks tied the game at one apiece on a two-out hit.
In the top of the ninth some more magic happened when Matt McCluskey led off the inning with a deep double to left center, starting a rally that included hits from Mike Sachs, Steve North, and Dom Craig. The Sharks were able to get two runs to take a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the ninth. Joey Ingler on the hill and Billy Kirkendale behind the dish were a great pitcher catcher combination as everything was working for Joey in his complete game. With a man on third and two outs in the ninth, the Sharks ended the game on a Blue Jay fly ball put out to center field. It was a memorable victory for long time coach Steve North and the Loudoun Sharks.
