2015 Senators Win Inaugural 50+ Title in Central North Carolina

Central North Carolina 50+ Division

Senators 7, Giants 5

‘Bauckham Leads Way on Hill’

Submitted by Rob Isbell, Senators manager

The Men’s Senior Adult Baseball League (MSBL) in Central North Carolina felt a need to expand and this decision resulted in a new 50+ age division. The new division started off with four teams this year and the potential of expanding further in 2016. The Senators ended up winning the inaugural championship after defeating the Reds in the semifinals and the Giants in the finals.

One highlight of the playoffs was 70 year old right handed pitcher Jim Bauckham who started and went four shutout innings in the first elimination game. Bauckham only allowed three hits. The Senators’ bats were hot (9 hits) and they defeated the Reds 12-2. The game was called after five innings due to rain.

In the championship game, Mark Simpson and Dave Halley combined to limit the Giants’ offense. Both teams had 12 hits but the Senators ended up winning the hard fought battle 7-5.
