2015 Sacramento Giants Runners-up in SMSBL Spring League

By Steve LaMontia, Director of Communications

The Sacramento Giants of the Sacramento Men’s Senior Baseball League came up just a little short in the Spring championship game in the 40-over National division. They lost to the 51’s 11-4 but put together a great spring session and look forward to the beginning of the summer season in July. They defeated the Golden State Pirates 3-0 in the semi-finals to advance to the big game.

Manager Bobby Brown sent along a few pictures and a brief summary of the game. “We were right in it for most of the game and only trailed 5-4 in the top of the sixth,” said Brown. “Then they scored six in the bottom of the seventh or eighth, I can’t remember, but they blew it open and we couldn’t catch up.”

Ken Heal was the starting pitcher and kept them in it. “Ken threw six innings and gave up five runs and struck out five and kept us in it,” Brown explained. “Our first baseman Joe Garcia went 4-4 but it just wasn’t enough. We look forward to getting back at it in July and then hopefully making it back to Arizona for the MSBL World Series. I’ll probably be with the Sacramento Royals down there but I look forward to taking the Giants to Arizona soon.”
