Southeast Texas Reds 10, SETX Mariners 7

The Southeast Texas Reds and the SETX Mariners fought on Sunday, 8/30/15 at Old Port Arthur Memorial Field, but in the end the Southeast Texas Reds pulled out a 10-7 Championship win in seven innings over the Mariners. The Reds finished their regular season with an impressive 14-6 record.
The Southeast Texas Reds went up for good on a two-run double by Matt Calvert off the Mariners starter, scoring Matt Kramlick and Andrew Falgout. Matt Gowan had two extra-base hits for the Southeast Texas Reds. He doubled in the first and fourth innings.
Jake Henderson got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings. Henderson struck out six, walked four and gave up seven hits.
The top of the first saw the Mariners take an early lead, 2-0. The Mariners pushed more runs across when they scored on a sacrifice fly. The Southeast Texas Reds scored three runs of their own in the first. The Southeast Texas Reds scored on an RBI double by Matt Gowan, a passed ball, and an RBI single by Tony Blanchard. The Southeast Texas Reds piled on runs thanks to an RBI double by Falgout and a two-run home run by Blanchard.
The Mariners scored one run in the top of the third to cut their deficit to three. An RBI single triggered the Mariners’ comeback. The Mariners threat came to an end when Henderson finally got the strikeout. The Southeast Texas Reds built upon their lead with two runs in the fourth. The inning looked promising, as Falgout singled, scoring Matt Gowan to kick things off. That was followed up by another Matt Calvert double, plating Falgout.
After pushing across one run in the top of the fifth, the Mariners faced just a 10-6 deficit. An RBI single fueled the Mariners’ comeback. Finally, Henderson induced an inning-ending ground out. After pushing across one run in the top of the sixth, the Mariners faced just a 10-7 deficit. An RBI double in the seventh inning gave the Mariners life. But, Henderson got the strikeout to end the game and secure the championship for the Reds.
