‘Oliver’s Inside the Park Homer Secures Win in Extras’

The Club Paragon 45+ Rangers of the Rock-Milwaukee MSBL won the 45+ Division League play with a 13-1 record and have won the 45+ Division Playoff Championship for the second Consecutive year with an overall record of 17-1.

In the two out of three championship series, the 45+ Rangers beat the Muskies by the scores of 6-4 and 11-8 in 10 innings.

In game one, John Urban took the bump and held the Muskies to three runs over five innings. The Rangers led at that point 4-3. Offensively, Bob Custer scored from third base on an errant pick-off play to first base.Marvin Oliver drove in Jack Barron with a single for run number two. Oliver drove in Pete Jaske with a double and Mickey Pruefer drove in Oliver with a single for runs three and four. Pruefer pitched the sixth and seventh innings allowing the Muskies to tie the game at 4-4. In the bottom of the eighth the Rangers scored runs five and six on RBI singles by Pruefer and Terry Teske. Jerry Gambatese picked up the save with two scoreless innings for a final score of 6-4.

In game two the Rangers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead when Mickey Pruefer drove in Jack Barron and Marvin Oliver in the top of the first. The Muskies answered with one run in the bottom of the first and seven runs in the bottom of the second off of Ranger starting pitcher Tom Klawitter. The Rangers began to claw back with one run in the fifth and three runs in the seventh on an RBI single by Oliver, a fielder’s choice RBI by Pruefer and an RBI single by John Urban. Meanwhile, Klawitter shut down the Muskies through the seventh inning and Urban took the mound in the eighth to finish the game. With the Rangers down 8-6 in the top of the ninth, John Urban delivered a 2-run single to drive in Barron and Oliver to tie the score 8-8 after nine innings. In the top of the tenth, John Arnold doubled, Pete Jaske walked and Marvin Oliver hit a 3-run inside the park home run to give the Rangers an 11-8 lead. Urban closed out the game and collected the win.

The 45+ Rangers didn’t know it at the time, but they would go on to Arizona to win the 2015 45+ Central Wood Bat World Series Championship on November 7th at Tempe Diablo Stadium, beating the California Redbirds by the score of 15-8. (picture below)
