‘Farrar Goes the Distance for the Win’

The San Luis Obispo Nuts limped into the playoffs with a tie in the final game of the Spring season earning the fourth and final seed in the playoffs for the Central Coast MSBL championship. We were matched up against the leagues #1 seeded Colt 45’s team, who had a 9-1 overall record. Lee Collins pitched a gem hurling a shutout against the 45’s. The Nuts were led at the plate by Manager Robert Bonds with a perfect 3-3 day at the plate. Also shortstop Erik Wanner went 2-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.Collins was also 2-4 at the plate with a run scored.
In the Championship game the Nuts faced long-time rival and league powerhouse Blacksox. The Nuts would win in 11 innings 6-5. The Blacksox were led by manager and pitcher Tony Camacho. Camacho pitched 11 tough innings but the Nuts countered with their ace right-hander Mark Farrar who went the distance. The Nuts jumped to an early 4-0 lead in the third behind Justin Scoggins, who went 4-6 with a triple and a stolen base with two runs scored and an RBI. League MVP John Korsgaden and Erik Wanner were 2-6 with two and one RBI’s respectively. Scott Dozier scored the winning run in the top of the 11th and Mark Farrar shut the door on the Blacksox while going the distance for the win.
