Cleveland MSBL 25+ Division

‘Mariners Advance to Title Game’

Submitted by Bryan Cioffoletti, Mariners manager

The Midwest Mariners are in their seventh season as a team and first overall in the Cleveland MSBL. We came from the Strongsville, Ohio Triple A 18+Wood Bat League this year and kept up our winning ways finishing all the way through with a 16-8 Record including 4-2 in the playoffs, both losses to Steve’s Sports (20-0 Record). As a team we collected our 100th win. Dan Dowdell collected his 200thhit as a Mariner and pitcher Josh Scott recorded his 500thstrikeout. Overall we are very pleased with our 2015 results and look forward to lacing them up again in 2016.

We had an eight game winning streak midway through the year and plenty of team records were broke.

Here are some of our playoff highlights:

Round 1– 1-0 Win vs Aviators

Round 2– 10-0 Loss vs Steve Sports

Round 3– 7-5 Win vs Buckeyes

Round 4– 8-7 Win vs Aviators

Semi Finals– 12-2 Win vs Orioles

Championship– 3-0 vs Steve Sports

We had a walk off hit by Wesley Reyes in the 10th inning in an 8-7 win over the Aviators in round three, who we beat in the first round 1-0 to put us in the semi finals. We then won 12-2 over the Orioles with great pitching from Josh Scott, who gave up two earned runs over nine innings. We totaled 15 hits, including two apiece by Bryan Cioffoletti, Eric Gaines, Matt Toth, Nick Rife and Jeff Chase. Wesley Reyes drove in five runs in that game.

After losing to Steve’s Sports 10-0, we faced elimination versus the Lake Erie Buckeyes, but came up big and won 7-5 with our ace on the mound, Josh Stobinsk, who went all nine innings while only allowing two earned runs and five hits.

In the Championship, we only had five hits as we couldn’t figure out Steve Sports pitchers and lost 3-0. Josh Scott toed the rubber and again went all nine, allowing eight hits and two earned runs against a very good hitting team.
