‘Magruders Capture Three-peat in MUNY-Buffalo’

The Buffalo 35+ MUNY-Buffalo Baseball League ended in dramatic fashion as Magruders scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Erie-Buffalo 6-5 in the Championship game. It was the third consecutive championship for Magruders and manager Rick Baginski, who also won the regular season title with a 12-2 record. The game went back and forth and was highlighted by Christian Williams 2-run home run and Ron Dolyk’s 2-run triple in the seventh that tied the score.

The champs started off the season 1-2 with losses to Erie-Buffalo and Kuhn Contracting. They recovered by winning 11 straight to close the season. Then defeated the Buffalo Nine 7-6 to set up the Finals rematch with Erie-Buffalo.

Magruders was led by their pitchers all season. Scott Stinson, Bill Goss and Marty Wisniewski combined for all the teams 14 wins, which included nine saves and six one-run victories.Other big contributions came from Scott Hapeman, who led the team in home runs and stolen bases. Fellow outfielders Daryl Gram, Kevin McCarthy, and Scott Jusiak all hit over .300 and played flawless defense all season.

Newcomer Mark Diebold was fantastic behind the plate and utility man Kevin Schadel did everything he was asked to do and had the walk-off HBP that won the championship for his team.
