‘Ivy and Heard Lead the Way on the Hill’
Submitted by Bob Harvey, Indians manager
It was very much a team victory, with major contributions coming from many players. Pitching- wise it was Mike Ivy starting and throwing the first five innings for us, allowing no earned runs and only one hit. Mike threw ten innings in the playoffs and only gave up two earned runs and five hits total. When they started to rally against our bullpen, Steve Heard came in and put out the fire with 3 1/3 strong innings. Our rabbits were Mike Thatcher, Bo Whiting and Steve Pulbrook who all had multiple hit games and seemed to always be on base creating some sort of havoc for the opposition to deal with. Offensively, Herb McKee was the star with five hits and eight RBI’s. Paul Contreras had his usual strong game at the plate and played a strong shortstop. Excellent defense was played by Mark Rostratter, Mike Taylor, and Larry Leftoski behind the plate, who along with Dennis Miller and Rick Dertinger had some key hits.
