Submitted by Dale Joseph, Giants manager
In 2014, the Georgia Cherokees squared off against the Atlanta Giants in the Atlanta MSBL Championship. The Cherokees won the series 2-1. This year the two very same teams met again for a rematch.
In game one the Georgia Cherokees put together a few sporadic runs to open up a 4-0 lead. The Giants rallied back scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth, tying the game and sending it into extra innings. Eventually, the Cherokees pulled away in the 12th inning and captured game one by the score of 7-4.
In game two the Giants jumped out to an early lead thanks to a solo home run by Jace Whitmer. Adding runs in the fifth, seventh and ninth innings, the G-Men never looked back and tied the series (1-1) by the score of 12-6. Multiple hits were recorded by Christian Van Camp (OF), Jace Whitmer (C), Jay Page (1B), Dale Lebder (2B) and Jimmy Tidwell (OF). Michael Jarry recorded the win for the Giants, pitching seven innings, allowing only one earned run on four hits.
Tied at one game apiece, the game three rubber match would decide the 2015 MSBL Champion. The Cherokees visited the home team Giants for the second time in the series. The G-Men stormed out of the gate in the first inning when Zack Lecker (SS) blasted a solo home run to left field. Continuing an offensive showcase, the Giants scored eight runs in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 9-0. Defensively, the G-Men were flawless and held the Cherokees to only three base runners the entire game. Michael Jarry pitched seven complete innings, allowing zero runs on one hit. The G-Men exercised the mercy rule by defeating the defending the champs, 13-0.
The Giants won their eighth Atlanta MABL/MSBL title since entering the league in 2003.
