The DW Energy Giants, managed by John Mahalik and coached by Martin White, won the 35+ National North Texas Amateur Baseball League championship for the second year in a row by going undefeated in the 2015 playoff bracket. In the final game, the Giants started former major league pitcher D.J. Carrasco while Shawn Onley, who played in the Braves organization, was on the hill for the Modoc. The Giants won 11-3 on a great pitching performance backed by a solid hitting lineup.

D.J Carrasco allowed three runs over seven innings. He struck out nine, walked none and surrendered seven hits. Shawn Onley was the game’s losing pitcher. He lasted just 3 1/3 innings, allowing five runs. The game’s last lead went to the Giants, thanks to a first inning, two out rally that saw four runs cross the plate on four singles. The Giants built upon their lead with three runs in the third. Jimmy Kent kicked things off with a double, plating Alfredo Vasquez. That was followed up by Travis Hitzeman’s double, scoring Kent.

The Giants finished the year at 16-1-1. The team was made up of players from various levels including ex-college and ex-professional baseball players. 11 of the Giants played professional baseball at some point during their careers.

Diego DeLeon led the team in wins and John Mahalik led the team in home runs. For White and Mahalik, the Giants won the 2015 MSBL Puerto Rico Caribbean world series tournament and will be in Phoenix for the MSBL World Series in November.
