‘Cubs Post Dynamic Year in 35+ Division in Mid-Iowa Baseball League’

Submitted by Josh Stewart, Cubs manager

We had a great year in our first season in the 35-over division of the Mid-Iowa Baseball League as the MABL Cubs. Our team is assembled mostly from players hailing from the east side of Des Moines, Iowa. We went 11-2 in the league and finished second in the post-season tournament after coming back from the loser’s bracket. We enjoyed playing out of the loser’s bracket because it allowed us to play more games and have some more fun.

We competed in most of our games because of our star left-handedpitcher Scot Littell and our crafty right hander Wes Volk, along with our closer Terry Rivera. We led the league with the most runs scored and fewest runs given up and assembled the most hits. Josh Stewart and power hitter Sean Murphy really racked up the hits and home runs for us. Ritchie Bennet had the best average on the team hitting 500.

This team snapped out a lot of hits and got on base frequently while contributing a strong defense. We had to deal with a few injuries along the way but we were able to acquire Joe Young and Chad Osler, who picked up the pace for us midway through the season. We have the same team returning in 2016 and hope to continue to do well.
