The Syracuse Brewers won their fifth championship in six years. Managed by Rob Allen and Matt Christiana, the Brewers finished the season with a 16-3 record.
The Brewers faced their rival Dirty Jays in a three game series that saw a first weekend split. The Brewers 6-1 victory was highlighted by a complete game 11 strikeout performance by Dave Kinney.A first inning 2-run home run by Rob Allen and a three-hit, two RBI performance by Matt Christiana propelled the win. A 5-7 game two loss saw the typically solid Brewer defense make costly mistakes allowing an early lead slip away. A solid effort by the Dirty Jays sealed the win.
The Brewers won the championship with a decisive 12-7 victory over rival Dirty Jays, managed by Ryan Abbott. The final game saw Dave Kinney overpower the Dirty Jays, throwing seven innings while giving up two runs and tallying eight strikeouts. The Brewers tallied up 12 runs in the victory with Rob Allen’s four hits and four runs scored, Dave Kinney scoring three runs, Tom McLaughlin adding three hits and three RBIs, and Matt Christiana and Dan Kernan each adding two RBIs each.
The Brewers have truly been blessed with a solid group of core players that have allowed the Brewers to field a highly competitive team on an annual basis. The team leaders are: Wins-Ryan Stiles-9; Strikeouts-Dave Kinney-85; Hits-Dave Kinney-43; Home runs-Rob Allen-9; RBIs-Rob Allen-35.
