‘Davis Walk-off Grand Slam Secures Title’
Submitted by Ryan Lutzka, Brewers manager
The Bauhaus Brewers are the newest expansion team to join the 28+ TCMABL in 2015 and their inaugural season was a smashing success. Comprised of veteran 18+ players from the TCMABL Sea Donkeys, Coyotes, Cardinals, and Ducks this rag-tag group had an impressive 12-1 record in the regular season. Heading into the playoffs, the Brew Crew cemented themselves as the team to beat in the 28+. The goal from the beginning of the season was simple, bring home the Cup!! The first team in their way was the #7 seeded Skeeters, who Brian Dott handled by throwing a complete game gem to lead the Brew Crew to a 10-2 victory.
Next up was the #3 seeded two-time defending champion Rebyls. The Brewers knew the road to the Cup would have to go through the Rebyls. The Brewers looked to their ace in the hole and team MVP Matt Grill to pitch them to a victory. Grill was electric and pitched a complete game shutout to lead the Brew Crew to a 3-0 victory. The next round was the National League Championship game where the Brewers would face an upset-minded Boosters club, who had already knocked out the #1 seeded Northeast Nine the week before. The Brewers and Boosters played a hard fought game until the seventh inning. The Brewers would strike scoring four runs in the seventh and eighth to eventually earn a 7-3 victory. Once again it was team MVP Matt Grill who lead the way with a complete game, no earned runs victory.
On the American League side, the Cubs (six time AL Pennant winner) would fall to the NLB to set up a title game for the ages. The Brewers would hand the ball to hard throwing Nate Jackson to get the job done. The NLB and Brewers traded punches in the first few innings, until the bottom of the sixth when the Brewers clean-up hitter Kevin Davis belted a 3-run home run to dead center field putting the Brewers up 7-3. However, in the top of the seventh the NLB would answer by tying the score at 7-7. With two outs and runners in scoring position, Jackson was replaced by Grill. Grill got the much needed out to end the threat.
The game finally came to a dramatic end in the bottom of the ninth. Joe Paul would lead the inning off with a single, bringing lead-off hitter Hans Heggernes to the plate. Hans executed a perfect bunt single moving Paul to second. Next up was the Brewers manager and winner of their first batting title, Ryan Lutzka. Lutzka also executed a perfect bunt single loading the bases with no outs. Stepping up to the plate next was the Brewers best offensive player in 2015 Matt Stengel. Stengel would go down swinging, bringing Davis to the plate. On the second pitch, Kevin Davis belted a walk-off grand-slam homer over the left field wall to win the Cup for the Brewers. Davis would finish the day 3-4 with eight RBI. What a game! What a season! The Brewers look to defend the Cup in 2016. Cheers!
