Los Angeles Baseball League 35+ Sunday Federal Division

Agoura Bandits 5, Stallions 4

‘Whitaker Does the Job at the Plate and On the Hill’

The Championship game went 10 innings in stifling heat (103 degrees) but nevertheless a true championship game with my team, the Bandits, going head to head with the Stallions. The Bandits took an early two run lead only to see the Stallions tie and then move ahead. The Bandits played small ball in the fourth inning executing perfect back to back squeeze plays to tie the game where it stood until the ninth. The Stallions scored a go head run in the top of the ninth only to see the Bandits come back on a run scoring double by Darren Hubert (his second of the day) to tie it up again. Off to the 10th, where the Bandits won it in the bottom of the inning on a walk off single by league MVP Jerry Whitaker. Bandit shortstop Kevin Bronson had three hits on the day while Hubert and Whitaker each had two. Whitaker also picked up the win by pitching 7 1/3 innings in relief and pitching masterfully until he could knock in the winning run and the win all for himself.

This was the first post season playoff championship for the Agoura Bandits in their 20 year league history. While we have placed first in league standings on three prior occasions, we have never won the championship. More importantly, our average age is 53 years old with five players over 60 in a 35+ division. Let’s hear it for the old guys!
