2014 Storm Claims 55+ North County (San Diego) Spring Title
North County (San Diego) 55+ Spring League
Storm 18, Indians 10
Submitted by John Naslund, Storm manager
The Storm battled their long standing rival, the North County Indians, in the 55+ national league championship game. Thanks to stellar play from everyone involved, victory was the Storm’s to savor. The bats, more than anything else, did the talking on the day. Notable, exceptional play, was on display from Tommy Draper and Kent Hoopes. It was a literal team effort with gutsy play by all, many fighting through injury.
After giving up a run in the top of the first inning, the defending champ Indians scored six to take an early lead in the championship game against the North County Storm. The Storm rallied back with clutch hitting, pitching, and fielding to regain the lead in the fifth 8-6. The Indians, led by manager Bob Harvey, came back but the clutch hitting continued for the Storm for the rest of the game in which the Storm scored 10 more runs to the Indians four. Final: Storm 18 to Indians 10. The Storm took this installment of the friendly rivalry.
