Sonoma County, CA. The 45+ Redwood Empire Orioles entered the playoffs as the fourth seed and met the White Sox, who were the number one seed. The Orioles won game one, after being down 9-4 in the fifth inning,with clutch pitching by Bill Durbrow while squeaking out a 10-9 victory. Game two featured an eight inning dominating performance by pitcher Huey Fotiu, as the Orioles spanked the White Sox 10-1 to finish off the sweep.
In the second round, the Orioles faced their rivals, the Rockies and took Game one, 7-3 at Cardinal Newman HS, featuring clutch hitting and pitching. The second game moved to Hana Boys Center in Sonoma and featured two of the best pitchers in the league, Dave Halligan of the Rockies and Huey Fotiu of the Orioles, but the O’s lost a tight game, 2-1. In game three, in 90+ degree heat, the O’s beat the Rockies 7-4 behind a gutsy performance by pitcher Doug Wolfe, and a 14 hit barrage by the O’s against the Rockies. This is the first championship for the O’s in the Federal League of REBL! Go O’s!!
