Marietta, GA – The 18+ Central Division of the Atlanta MABL Sunday League had its share of contenders vying for the crown. The regular season was long and tumultuous with two of arguably best teams within the division coming out on top and facing off for the right to be called Champions. McBluv and the Atlanta Titans locked horns for this best of three series.
Game one was a pitcher’s duel. Fast forward into the top of the ninth with the score 3-2 in the favor of the Titans, McBluv clean-up hitter Shane Myer hit a clutch two run double to put McBluv ahead 4-3. In the bottom of the ninth the Titans fought and strung together hit after hit walking off with the victory in game one with a final score of 5-4.
In game two the bats came alive for McBluv. Powered by three long balls from the bats of Chad Mayo, John Palmer, and Austin Kuchinski, McBluv went ahead early and never looked back ending with a final score of 13-4.
Coming into game three it was expected that ‘Johnny Wholestaff’ would pitch for both teams. It would just be a matter of who could hit and execute. The Titans game one starter came back to start game three while McBluv had their game two starter come back to start game three as well. Both pitchers gave honorable and gutsy performances. However it was McBluv who came out shooting early and went up big towards the middle of the game 14-1. The Titans rallied back hard to pull the large lead to within five, but McBluv proved to be more resilient of the two battle-hardened teams put up a total of 19 runs to clinch the championship with a final of 19-10.
McBluv were able to come back to this 2014 season with many players from the 2013 championship team. Keeping the core players along with a deep enough pitching staff were the keys to making a repeat run. McBluv looks forward to making it a 3-peat in 2015!
