2014 Lonestars Capture 45+ Title in San Antonio

San Antonio MSBL 45+ Division

Lonestars Win It All In Their First Year

Submitted by Bill Rector, manager

2014 was the first year for the 45+ Lone Stars in San Antonio, TX MSBL. The team was founded by veteran MSBL player/manager Bill Rector who’d relocated from the Virginia in 2013. Bill had played and coached in the DCMSBL for over ten years winning seven championship rings during that time. The Lone Stars learned there is no better way to judge talent than to see it in action first hand on the field. The Lone Stars won the 2014 SAMSBL 45 and over regular season and tournament Championship compiling a record of 20-2-1. Lee Mann was voted team MVP for the 2014 Lone Stars.

With player invitations sent out at the end of 2013, the 45+Lone Stars were formed. Most of the talent was taken from 45 and 55 plus teams because this would be a team constructed specifically to play at higher levels during the normal season with an eye to winning tournaments in the 50+ age groups. So, GM Bill Rector and assistant manager Santiago “Jim “Gonzales are bringing this team to Phoenix. This year’s team was led offensively by Mark Harless, Bill Rector, Phil Underwood, Kevin Ullrich, and Jim Gonzales. The pitching staff was anchored by Lee Mann, Kevin Ullrich and Will Martinez. The defense was led by Lee Mann, Jeff Marley, Luis Velazquez and Jim Gonzales. Melvin Hayes, Mike Buie, and Luis Velazquez did the duties behind the dish this year.

The team has good talent, but that means nothing without team chemistry and all the guys supported each other and kept the bench loose all season. We look forward to next season in the SAMSBL and playing in the 2014 MSBL World Series.
