Jacksonville Indians 5, Cruisers 1
Contributed by Joe Hellett, Jacksonville Indian manager
The Jacksonville Indians defeated the Mayport Cruisers 5-1 in a well-pitched game by both teams to claim the 2014 Jacksonville MABL Championship. The Indians were lead on the mound by a strong seven inning, one run, four hit, 12 strike out performance by Chris Eng, followed by a two inning, four strike out performance by Jeremiah Dees to close out the game.
The Indians were staked to a four run first inning lead by a lead-off triple by Taylor Peterson, followed two batters later by a line drive two-run home run to left field by Devon Hellett.
The Cruisers pitcher, Mitch Hyser, settled down from that point, allowing only three more hits over the next eight innings, while giving up only one more run in a strong performance, allbiet in a losing effort.
Congratulations to the Indians for their championship effort, and to the Cruisers for their fine season and first time appearance in the League Championship.
