Our team, the Rancho Cordova Dodgers is in it’s 10th season in Sacramento adult baseball and we have won two league championships and one division championship. This years team was exceptional, with Russell Hooper leading the SMSBL 40 plus division in home runs (5) and in rbi (43). We led the 40 plus division in several offensive categories, including hits (354), singles (278), runs (249), rbi (243), walks (131), HBP (30), stolen bases (87), sac hits (36), batting average (.455), OB% (.548) and SLG% (.591).
Our pitching was just as capable, as we led the 40 plus division in strikeouts (127), earned runs (59) and team ERA (2.59).
In addition to Hooper, KB Gandy was third in the league in batting average hitting .585. Tom Reid led the team in stolen bases with 18, and walks with 20 while Dackery Hardeman led the team in doubles with nine. Dave Maldonado, Hooper and Reid also tied for the team lead in runs with 23 each, while Gandy led the team in triples with three.
Steve Bogan led the team in ERA with a 2.01 line and finished the season 4-2, three saves and 37 K’s in 49.1 IP. Tim Halverson, the team ace for the last five years, finished with eight wins (tops in the league) and two losses, 82.2 IP and 53 K’s (fourth in the division).
Our team ERA can be attributed to our starting catcher, Tony Lane, who was a calming influence and gave our pitching staff the confidence to throw anything they wanted, anywhere at any time. The entire team was committed from start to finish to bringing home the championship were it belonged. We ended the season as the division leader with a 14-4-1 record and we swept the playoffs, beating the Free Agents 15-2, and sweeping the Fair Oaks Giants (how fitting it’s Dodgers versus Giants for the title) by scores of 6-3 and 18-5.
There wasn’t one player that didn’t contribute to the team success and every single player will be back in the Dodger stable for the 2015 season. I have been a part of baseball for over 38 years and this is by far the greatest assemblance of players I have ever had the pleasure of being around. The team chemistry was by far the best on the league.
We would like to thank Jim Tygrett and Alan Van Ness for providing a superior league and gorgeous fields to play on. The umpiring was also very good and we would also like thank the umpiring crew for an job well done.
