LaGrange (IL) MABL
Cicero Pirates 10, Brookfield Stallions 1
Submitted by Keith Halverson, managerThe Brookfield Stallions lost game one to the Whooligans right out of the gate. Then, the pitching stepped up. The Stallions won four straight games (games 2 through 5) only allowing five runs in that span. Kyle Halverson led the staff in victories going 2-0, including a complete game one run performance in game five to go to the championship. Keith Halverson led the offense hitting .533 (8 for 15). Mike Eifel and Jon Kleinmeyer also earned huge victories that week on the mound with great performances. Game four had some big highlights in a 3-2 win over the Red Angels, in which Kleinmeyer pitched a complete game, but also included two huge stolen bases and an outfield assist at home plate by Alex Nenodivc. Lastly, Eric Shumacher delivered the game winning hit in that contest.
The championship game was not what we envisioned, but we simply ran out of pitching and out of hits on offense. We lost 10-1 to the Cicero Pirates with the top of the order carrying the only offense: Kyle Halverson had three hits, Keith Halverson had two hits, and Jon Kleinmeyer had two hits.
Overall leaders for the 2014 playoff run included Keith Halverson batting .619 (13 for 21), Kyle Halverson with two wins on the mound, and Jon Kleinmeyer pitching 19 innings on the mound and hit the only home run for the Stallions in the playoffs.
