2014 Blue Ridge Mountain A’s Celebrate Successful Season
Blue Ridge Mountain Adult Baseball League

The BRMABL A’s opened the season blowing a 10-7 lead in the final inning of the season opener. Free agent pick up Garrett Nelson nailed down the closer role for the remainder of the year averaging over one and a half strikeouts per inning and sporting a 1.01 ERA over 35 2/3 innings. Scott Wickham and Garrett Nelson lead the way throughout most of the season on the hill while the team lead the league in strikeouts and carried a 2.5 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio. Brian Vines lead the team in hitting and was tied for second in the league with three homers. Jarrod McCombs consistent defense at shortstop was the glue that held a previously error prone defense together. He also held down the clean-up spot in the order while leading the team in hits and runs scored. The A’s have the league’s widest age variance with players ranging between 21 and 65. In a true team effort, each player on the 2014 roster came through with a big hit or catch in a clutch situation. Down the stretch, injuries and players moving from the region left the team with nine guys for the playoffs and we came up short. Regardless, the A’s truly enjoyed themselves and look to build on the 2014 regular season championship run with a 2015 regular and playoff championship.
