What’s in a Name?

Greetings, baseball brethren!

This is Steve LaMontia, MSBL Director of Communications, checking in with a short yet powerful story that concludes with an important message for you.  I’ll attempt to be brief.

I have been on this earth for 74 years, and in 2024, thanks to my wife urging me to complete a DNA analysis through Ancestry, I found out who my birth father was and that I have a brother and sister!  I have spent my life as an only child, having been adopted at the age of five by my stepfather, Tony LaMontia.  As you can imagine, this came as quite a pleasant surprise.

I won’t bore you with non-baseball related details, but this news at this stage of my life is quite a game changer.  My birth father and his family hailed from Carlentini, Sicily.

For the sake of generations continuing on and to honor my original family and newfound pride, I am changing my name to LaMontia-Carlentini.  LaMontia remains my legal name for many technical reasons.  But this change will take effect on everything I can more adequately control.

I am writing to inform you that from this moment on, both in my personal world and my MSBL communications, you will see ‘LaMontia-Carlentini.’  I need to get the jump on the confusion and relay that I am still the same guy sitting at the master desk here in Colorado and continuing to stay on top of all things MSBL for you.

I look forward to keeping up with our massive communications, just with a slight twist.

Take care and play safe, everyone!
