Submitted by Dave Disinger, Past President, Syracuse MSBL
Owen Donovan, longtime member and former League President of the Syracuse MSBL, passed away on August 19th of this year. Owen played for and later managed the Cicero Swampers from the very beginning of the league (1988) until retiring in 2017.
He served as league President for ten years and was inducted into the league’s initial Hall of Fame class in 2018. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia, and two children.
He will be missed by all the many players, coaches, and umpires who shared the field with him for thirty seasons.
Owen had a great appreciation for sports, especially baseball. Within the game of baseball, Owen saw complexity that mirrored life and its sweet mysteries. Through the game of baseball, he shared a connection with his father, his children and grandchildren, friends and fellow players, community, and the many neighborhood kids whom he coached in Little League.
