MSBL Manager of the Month: Dave Sacco, Connecticut North MSBL 2017

Submitted by Greg Schienda, Connecticut North League President

I would like to nominate Dave Sacco as the MSBL Manager of the Month. Dave has been in our Connecticut North MSBL since the mid-90’s and has been the Player/Manager for the Newington Caps the majority of those years since joining. Two years ago the Caps moved from the 25+ ‘A’ division to the newly formed 35+ division, which is when I moved to the Caps to be able to play alongside Dave. This year Dave led us all the way to the finals in the playoffs but we came up just one game short of winning the title while finishing an impressive 21-6.

Dave has about 19 registered players on the Caps team. I made the switch to his team a couple of years ago so that we could play together, something we had always discussed. I was playing in the 25+ division and his Caps were in the 35+. It’s been a great move. His is the only team in our league that has about 14 to 16 guys show up for a double header each Sunday. Most teams are fortunate to have 10 or 11 guys make it every week. It is quite the feat to keep that many guys happy and willing to return the following week. It is a testament to the manager. It’s a great bunch of guys managed by a great guy. We lost in the semi finals of our league play-offs last year and lost in the finals this year. Hopefully we will be able to win it all next year.

Dave joined my MSBL World Series team in Arizona in 1994 and we have been friends ever since. He has joined me every year in Arizona until a couple of years ago. Dave’s passion, attention to detail and love for the game makes him not only worthy of this honor but a great friend and teammate.
